Matthias Pliessnig

I just discovered this incredible furniture designer. Known more for his work in metal, he recently began working with wood and uncovering it’s mendable characteristics to create powerful organic forms.  His work reminds of something in between Santiago Calatrava and Zaha Hadid.

“My current work is exploring combinations of boat building and furniture building skills to create objects that celebrate wood as a material and asks questions of function.”

Give it a 6 months, you’ll find this knocked off at IKEA at a fifth the price.

High Design + Cost Effectiveness + Recyclable Materials = A Truly Sustainable Product

This gorgeous table called 3fold was designed by London-based design firm FormTank. It uses a single standardized sheet of steel and after being cut is formed by hand. Too bad it’s 3,851 Euros.
