Third World Relief Latrine

use

I just finished up my study abroad at INSEAD in France where I, along with 4 other MBA’s, developed a latrine for refugees. Above is a preview of the design. It’s still in progress because I want to refine some details, but the plan is to try and make this design a reality and hopefully have some sort of positive impact. This summer I plan to develop a to scale proof of concept model along side my dad (the engineer) and take that to either an NGO or foundation to find some seed money to get this project off the ground.

This is Jason Castriota latest creation. Sure it’s a bit of a stretch but I like it. More importantly it’s what Jason’s known for and good at. Working for Pinnafarina he’s also designed the Maserati Birdcage 75th, Rolls Royce Hyperion, and the Ferrari 612 Kappa just to name a few.

What killed it for me was the decision to go with red for the show car (the white version is a computer rendering).  You can’t see any of the stunning surfacing and the graphic break ups get really diluted. What a shame.

Make sure to check out the video below. It’s part of an on going mini documentary on the design of the Mantide to build viral hype. In it he analytically describes the design of the Lambo Countach. It’s brilliant because he makes sense of design to an almost scientific level. Starts around 2:55. And because we all know there’s nothing worse than arbitrary car design.

Fun fact : he’s an ACCD dropout
